A label identifies a source or component. It does not establish that equipment is isolated, locked out or de-energized, and it does not replace equipment-specific procedures, verification or training. Match each identifier to your facility’s documented system.
Supporting Hazardous-Energy Identification
OSHA’s control of hazardous energy standard, 29 CFR 1910.147, addresses procedures for controlling hazardous energy during covered servicing and maintenance. OSHA guidance explains that energy-control procedures must identify the type and magnitude of hazardous energy and the methods used to control it. Numbered source-identification labels can help workers match marked sources or components to the corresponding equipment-specific procedure. These stickers supplement that identification system; they are not the lockout or tagout devices required for controlling energy.
