ASME B30.2 Directional Marking

ASME B30.2 Section 2-1.1.6(c) requires directional markings on applicable overhead and gantry crane equipment or facilities. The standard identifies “north, south, east, west” as examples of acceptable markings and specifies that they must be legible to the operator and consistent with the direction-of-movement markings on the crane controllers.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.179(b)(2) also requires covered overhead and gantry cranes constructed and installed on or after August 31, 1971, to meet the design specifications of ANSI B30.2.0-1967, as incorporated by reference.
